My roommate has a 2002 trooper she says she'll sell me for super cheap if i can fix it. She said it just overheats but her mechanic said it'd be $10,000 to replace the engine. I had the thing running for an hour. After filling the coolant it wasn't overheating and the engine sounds fine. The problem i ran into was that it wouldn't go into gear to test drive it. When i try to shift nothing happens. The engine doesn't even lag like it's trying to go into gear but just slipping. It won't even shift into neutral so i can push it. Looked online but so far the only info i can find is about the rodeo. Web says it could be the shifter cable. All the parts stores say their computer says that's not a part they carry for the trooper, can't tell me if the trooper even uses a cable.

Please help, I need a vehicle and this could be the easiest option.

2002, isuzu trooper automatic transmission. Let me know whatever other specs are needed.

The Rod #29 operates the Lever #72 that rotates the Shaft # 9 that operates Selector # 23 that operates the transmission manual valve and Parking Pawl that locks the tail shaft in Park. Note that item #9 #23 #40(A) and item #13 are inside the transmission case.

Look under the vehicle at the left side of the transmission case and determine if Lever #72 moves when the Console Shift Lever is moved from P to N.

My neighbor paid that to rebuild an engine in an Explorer. Unfortunately, there are more than a few mechanics out there like that.
