My roommate has a 2002 trooper she says she'll sell me for super cheap if i can fix it. She said it just overheats but her mechanic said it'd be $10,000 to replace the engine. I had the thing running for an hour. After filling the coolant it wasn't overheating and the engine sounds fine. The problem i ran into was that it wouldn't go into gear to test drive it. When i try to shift nothing happens. The engine doesn't even lag like it's trying to go into gear but just slipping. It won't even shift into neutral so i can push it. Looked online but so far the only info i can find is about the rodeo. Web says it could be the shifter cable. All the parts stores say their computer says that's not a part they carry for the trooper, can't tell me if the trooper even uses a cable.
Please help, I need a vehicle and this could be the easiest option.
