Security Certificate Untrusted?

Postby Ed Mc. » Fri Jun 22, 2018 9:35 pm

Has there been some recent change to the site's security certificate?

For about a week I've been getting an "untrusted" message from my browser.

I have to keep adding an "exception" to the untrusted site, in order to visit the Planet.

Would appreciate any help or workarounds you can give for this issue.

Thanks,
ed

I got that a few times today myself. I didn't do anything but come back to the site later and it worked fine.

There is a problem with the security certificate for is this site, Admin needs to fix it soon because most people can't/won't access the site when they see this message.

When I get email notification of a new post in a watched thread, I'm allowed to go right to the thread. I can then go to the main forum and from there wherever I need to go. But, if I try to go to the main site from my bookmark, I get the above message. So there is a way around, but it's a pain in the ---.

So this issue was posted on Friday evening. As of Sunday afternoon, no acknowledgment from AG_Admin.
AG_Admin wrote:Hello everyone,

My name is Phil, I am a community manager for AutoGuide.com, I work with a small team that will continue to manage the webmaster duties for PlanetIsuzoo.com along with the current moderator team. We are here to help primarily with the technical end of things and help make the jobs of the current Mods/Admins easier. I posted a real basic run down to answer common questions below. If you have more questions or concerns please feel free to post them in response.

What are our intentions?

We bring reliability, support and the infrastructure needed to ensure that the community will continue to be around for years to come. It’s our goal to work with the mod/admin team to help provide the resources and required work to give this community a broader reach, to attract new members, and to better the overall knowledge shared in the community.

Will leadership change?

Continuity is the focus here, YOU as the membership work very hard to keep building this community while your mod/admin team keep the walls and the roof up in this place; we are primarily here to make sure the lights stay on. Every community is unique and should always be respected in that regard. You all have established your own unique rules and regulations and a strong reputation that is carried by all of this. For us it’s paramount to maintain this level of integrity and enthusiasm.

What am I here for?

Our primary role is to be the technical contact; you all contributed to building the strong foundation the site was built on. Moving forward we will all work together to keep the momentum and the community growing. We will be on the forum checking in daily to make sure regular maintenance is taken care of and keeping things running smoothly from behind the scenes. We will also be setting up a help desk on the site for when you have questions or issues with the site or your account and need assistance.

Looking forward to working with you all.

Thanks,
-Philip

Phil, I see AG_Admin was on the site today -- but still no acknowledgement of this issue. And where's that help desk?

The list of SANs doesn't contain the actual Subdomain.
It lists these two for the Planet.

DNS Name=planetisuzoo.com
DNS Name=www.planetisuzoo.com

It should also have this one: forum.planetisuzoo.com

I'll send a note to Kevin the Agadmin guy.
1997 Solid Axle Rodeo :: Ar5 swap :: Revo 4Lo :: 5.29/5.36 :: Front OX :: Rear ARB :: Full Float :: Chromoly Bling Bling
Build: 3-link coilover front 44 & rear FZJ80 on 37's

By the way, I noticed one thing.
It seems they have CNAMEd the Forum subdomain to the actual web site domain: www.planetisuzoo.com.
You guys may have a bookmark or something to the old subdomain forum.planetisuzoo.com
Change your starting point to the Planet in your bookmark to the 'www' domain name and the Cert will be trusted and you won't get the warning anymore.

Kevin, Ag_admin, you guys should put a simple regex for URL redirect for the 'forum' subdomain to direct traffic to the 'www'
A long time ago Tad, set up the forums in the forum subdomain and started to use the 'www' for articles. We even once had a 'wiki' subdomain too.
anyhow, something like this depending on the tool you have.
forum.planetisuzoo.com\/(\1*)
www.planetisuzoo.com\/(\1*)
1997 Solid Axle Rodeo :: Ar5 swap :: Revo 4Lo :: 5.29/5.36 :: Front OX :: Rear ARB :: Full Float :: Chromoly Bling Bling
Build: 3-link coilover front 44 & rear FZJ80 on 37's

Lorenzo,
You're the MAN!!! That seems to be it. Thanks! Now, how do I get the site to automatically open on the "Full Site" instead of having to click on it when it opens in the "Un-Full Site"?

Are you on a mobile phone Mike?
You may want to dump your cookies and if you scroll to the bottom you'll see a switch to desktop message. Click it and it should set a cookie for future visits to be desktop.
I don't know how long that cookie will last though.

Lorenzo,
Nope, a laptop. Not smart enough for a mobile phone. The only thing I see at the bottom of this page is "Delete All Board Cookies", nothing about switching to desktop.

Not sure what browser you are using but go delete the planetisuzoo cookies and restart the browser.
Then find that link at the bottom of the site and click it.
That should set your cookie on your machine.
Anything else, just PM me.

Currently on portable and desktops devices running Firefox...

Websites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust this site because it uses a certificate that is not valid for https://www.planetisuzoo.com. The certificate is only valid for the following names: cpaceclub.com, forum.srt4mation.com, marlinowners.com, mazdaworld.org, mp-pistol.com, myjeepcompass.com, ncgunowners.com, nissanforums.com, nodakoutdoors.com,... and many more

Yup, here we go again! I tried 3 browsers and got warnings.

This is what my Brave browser said: "This server could not prove that it is https://www.planetisuzoo.com; its security certificate is from marlinowners.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection."

Any Admins out there???????

That does not fix the problem. Anyone viewing or responding in this thread has already done that.

As soon as someone sees this 'scary' warning, they are not likely to visit the site.

What killed Trooper sales in the US, Consumer reports warning, and a bad rating, sales immediately fell. That is how people respond when warned about sensitive issues and the web is no different.

Agreed! And ignoring warnings is a really bad habit to get into.

Why is the warning there? Because a mismatched SSL certificate can indicate that a domain has been hijacked, and that the hijacker may be delivering malware via driveby downloads.

If it's not malevolent, then it's just because the site operators are either careless, ignorant, or both.
