With all of the work we have been doing in our garage and the stuff that accumulated we decided it was time for a garage reno.

Here is a list of what was/going to be accomplished. Pictures/Vlog to follow! * = Work completed

1) New drywall ceiling (3/8" over old 1/2") *
2) Finish all walls and paint (We only did a really sloppy tape coat 19 years ago) *
3) Ceiling access door (insulated) Had a piece of drywall sitting in the opening. *
4) Insulated garage door (Old one took a beating from my safari rack )
5) Jack lift garage door opener with internet control. Replacing Craftsman screw drive. <--This still works but I didnt want one on the ceiling again.
6) Complete airline runs. 50ft retractable mounted on ceiling.
7) Retractable 12 gauge power cord on ceiling.
All new NewAge Pro 3.0 garage cabinets. *
9) Paint doors/Add trim.
10) LED Lights with automatic on/off *
11) Split AC/Heat to condition the space.
12) Possible flooring (epoxy, tiles or something else)
13) Welding cart added *

My garage door just showed up today, we have been without a functioning door for almost a month! Hope to get this installed either today or Saturday (When help is around!! LOL)

Another delay. Garage door is damaged. It might be salvageable since it's only one of the interlocking joints between panels but it was very expensive and should be perfect! Might be another few weeks for a replacement. Ugh.

We purchased an airless sprayer to prime and paint the walls. It worked wonders! A 24x20 garage was primed in under an hour and this is with my wife following behind with an 18" roller.



Here is the paint. Did this the day after priming. 2 coats, sprayed on followed by 18" roller. We decided on painting everything the same color and sheen to speed things along. Worked out great. Color is "Silver Shadow"!

After all that was finished we took delivery of our new 10 piece NewAge Pro 3.0 garage cabinets. You can also see our new high intensity LED work lights. They are amazing! Instant on and they work at temps well below 0F.




Over the past several days we have been installing them. One of the large locker cabinets was damaged in shipping by a fork lift. Working on getting a replacement but it's holding up the finished product!

Here is another shot of the outside wall of the garage with how I think the final layout will be (minus the ladders). Trying to decide on an airline system to get the air into the ceiling and maybe another outlet on the other wall. Not sure if I want 1/2" OD or 3/4" Looking at Maxair kits. Leaning towards 3/4" right now.

Also you can see we also installed the attic door (Werner insulated)

Sadly, the garage door arrived with 2 damaged panels Waiting on a replacement for them (2 weeks gag!)

Very nice. I plan on adding a garage soon, so I'm always looking for tips and tricks.

The garage is about 98% finished now!






Just have to paint the one exterior door and trim, the door leading into the house and the trim as well as the attic access door and trim.

Then run the air lines and the retractable cord to the ceiling and that should be it!

The split A/C heat unit is on hold for now pending funds.

We are extremely happy with it. The finish took longer because we had to wait almost 3 weeks for the two replacement garage door panels to arrive. The cabinet company didn't want the one damaged locker back so I did my best to repair the fork lift damage and we put it in to service in the garage too!

I just LOVE the liftmaster jack lift door opener. The entire system is so quiet. I do have to get some springs on the back of the track though to help with cable tension. That is on order too. The door locks automatically and we have complete control over the door via phone and internet apps! It's wonderful. Also we get alerts when the door opens or closes an we can set it to automatically close in case some one forgets to close it or we forget to close it after we leave.

I will be tying the whole system to my home automation setup and I hope to have the door open automatically when one of our cars/trucks arrive home without human intervention. We'll see how that goes!




The roll out drawers are nice on the base cabinet. Easy to get to stuff.

Finally got a welding cart for the welder too! Been wanting this one for a while. It's a harbor freight. Very sturdy and perfect for one I will use it for. Now I can keep my helmet and gloves in the same place! Covered so no dust can get on them.

Very nice, now you have to get out and buy another Isuzu to work on.

I have a few more projects to work on around here. Finish the basement, new Master bath and new kitchen cabinets and counter top. New front and basement doors.

We are thinking of moving south and I have to get the house cleaned up and all pretty before we move forward.

The stupid automatic light is giving me a fit. It seems that it has changed it's programming and I can't get it back into the correct mode. Ugh!

I paid cash for this project.

I hope to get the rest of this project done in the next two weeks - except for the remaining paint work and the split unit.

My trooper will be parked in there by the middle of this week and I start to disassemble it for the new water pump and supercharger snout rebuild. Running out of time before Uwharrie so I have to start soon!

Thank you. Since the last post we added the retractable power cord and that is about it. I am still trying to figure out the most cost effective way to run air lines. I am not 100% sold on those pre-made air kits yet. But I need to decide fast because I am running out of projects out there and I would like to have the air handy again. Right now we have the retractable reel sitting on the ground near the compressor and it's a pain to work with.

I used rapidair in my garage and it has been awesome. Installation was easy and you can geek out as much as you want as far as doing a clean install. Mine was quick and dirty, but very functional. I haven't had any issues.

I plan on putting the same thing, but much larger set up in my new house. I will put air outlets all over the basement and outside the rear garage door. Additionally, I can get through a crawl space to the daily garage on the main level, so I plan on running a line up there for tire filling and airing up bikes. The stuff is so easy to use, why not?

I have been looking the rapid air. The 1/2" line kit. And almost pulled the trigger on it. It seems like they don't give you everything you need though. Glad you like it though - This gives me more confidence in using the product.

Yeah, in my current set up at the old house, the simple 1/2 kit sufficed. I only had it ran from the compressor to the reel next to the garage doors and one other outlet near that. It was simple. For my new house, I plan on really going all out and putting in 4 or 5 different stations. It will definitely exceed the kit.
