Today was supposed to be my painting day, finally just about ready. And it has been raining since 3:00 am. Oh well, I just hope its sunny by 1:00 when I get off work...

Well it cleared up enough! It's painted and clearcoat-ed finally! The clearcoat ran in a few spots, and I got a little dust on it. All in all not bad for a first if I say so myself. All I ever painted base/clear before was a bumper. Pics soon but it's hard to get the color to show right...

I painted in a bodyshop (trim out and partial paints), and I'll telle you what, it takes time to get the knack down. Can't wait to see photos.

I just realized how my post may have sounded. I meant that your first attempt at painting turned out well. I didn't mean this is the first time you did anything well. Just so that we are clear.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I'll post some pics of the bad parts later if I can. There is an abundance of orange peel, and I seem to have gotten very little clear on a section of the right fender. Then there's two runs and a few sags. I guess I'm going to be buying a buffer...

paint looks great! and no stripes! how many coats base/clr did you do? Just a quick color sand and buff out and it'll look awesome!

Macro shot of orange peel on the front edge of the hood, that's pretty much the worst area.

If the runs are in the clear coat only, you can use a straight edge razor blade and drag it down the run from top to bottom. Drag it down as many times as necesary to get the run flush with the flat clear coat around it. Make sure to use a new razor and make sure to keep the razor blade as flat to the car as possible. Then wet sand lightly with 1000 or 1200 grit and buff it with buffing compound and wax. That should take care of it. As for the orange peel goes in general, if you created the orange peel in the base, it's done for good. Minus a repaint. If it's in the clear, you could wet sand and polish it out starting with 1000 and moving to 1200 then 1600. It will take a while, and you need to make sure there is enough clear to be able to sand and buff w/o burning thru. Always watch the edges and corners. Enevitable they are the thinnest and easiest to sand buff thru.

Hope that helps some.
