How far are the OBX from VaBch? I want to give mine a seriously hard run down there, before I go on deployment, and is there a speed limit? Not being a smartass, but I need to know if I will be able to keep momentum, or if I shoudl scrap the whole idea...

As far as driving at OBX on the beach, it really depends on the town you are in. Most have restrictions from driving on the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day. However, Nags Head will allow you to drive on the beach year round as long as you purchase a permit. Driving anywhere south of Nags Head you are in National Park land. Most is open to 4WD vehicles, but parts have been closed due to Isabel. A great entrance place is down at Oregon Inslet. The northern 1/3 is in Currituck County and has similar restrictions until you get to the end of NC 12(just past the Currituck lighthouse). This is by far one of the best places to drive up the beach.... Wide open and not a whole lot of folks in the way. All of the beaches have a low speed limit, 25 is the max in Nags Head.

I have yet to go out in the Oregon Inlet area, although I've seen vehicles out there from the highway - always wanted to explore it. I understand things get interesting up to the north as well, but haven't ever been up there.

Ocracoke Island has some nice areas as well. The northern end of the island has some entry points over to the beach - pretty soft stuff too. But the 'big' area is just north of the village.

Well, I twisted her real good today, adn found that the 1 inch of trimming around the fenders, will give me the clearance I need. I have a bit of rubbing on the outer part of the side lugs..BUT, once I clear that "extra" metal out of the way, I will be fine...and the fronts didnt rub that I saw..I guess this willbe tough and go....

Besides, I need some good pics of this thing airborn.....

Was going to get one when I left for work this AM but it was still a little too dark. I'll get one over the weekend for sure. Athough about the only things that have changed are the tires, and added some rust

I love going down there when I get a chance. Back when the economy was up and business was good we use to rent a house in Corova Beach every year. A town with no paved access. My kind of place! Haven't been down there in a few years.

Well after cleaning the K&N and putting a fresh charge on the batter, I snapped a couple of current shots of the Trooper. I plan on giving her some love and driving her this week. Hopefully the last few pics don't make you too sick (not for the faint of heart). For some reason the driver's side of my Troop always is the worst, 1st with the paint and now with the rust, that's why most of her beauty shots are from the passengers side

Hoping everything works out for Jan and we can make it, so looking forward to flexing the suspension a little. Drove her to work today. I'm going to change the oil and filter and install some new plugs this afternoon. I think my front left caliper may be sticking a little, noticed the hub was a little warm ( I make checking a habit after having one totally lock up on me a couple of years ago )

Keeping a Trooper for almost a decade is a great things. And that rust is fixable if you have plan to keep it stock for a decade more.
You know that some people will do an extreme modification, specially if you you have more than one Trooper. What's your plan with it?

I see that you body lifted it. I like the way you keep the front and rear bumper still on the right place.

I'm going to cut out the rust on the lower rockers and weld and or bolt some square tube steel in place of it. On the lower door panels I plan on attaching some thinner steel plates. I've been toying with the idea of turning it into a truck of sorts. I've always got plans, some happen some don't. I am getting ready to order a locker for the 12bolt from aussie, that's going to happen, oh yeah.
