'98 & '99 5-Speed Troopers in Oregon!

Postby Ed Mc. » Wed Oct 21, 2020 9:49 pm

So there are (2) Troopers with the Unobtanium 5-speed manual transmission for sale in Oregon. A cosmic event, eh!!

This one just popped up, a black '99 with 160K for $3600, Netarts, OR:

https://portland.craigslist.org/nco/cto ... 34140.html

White '98 with 149K for $7400  very clean, in Portland, OR:

https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto ... 80108.html

I would expect that 2 late-model 5-speed Troopers coming up for sale at the same time is an even rarer event than an asteroid striking the Earth the day before Election Day!!

'96 5-Speed Trooper, $900 (Montesano, WA)

Postby Ed Mc. » Fri Oct 30, 2020 4:04 pm

Another deal on a Gen II 5-speed Trooper. Check out that grill guard!!

Squeal from driver's side could be wheel bearing, CV joints, or? Bring your trailer and haul it home!

https://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/ ... 66858.html

1996 Isuzu trooper. 4x4, manual transmission, 3.2l v6, snorkel mounted but not hooked up, new manual hubs installed and new front brakes, is still a project. There is squeal coming from driver side wheel, has a problem will look into it, if it doesn't sell fast. Will drive onto a trailer, but again this is a project until the front end is diagnosed. Asking $900, firm on that as I have quite a few new parts for it too to get it up to being a daily driver. That was my plan, clear title, expired tabs, started and drove it today, but has been sitting over a year.

You have to admire the way on that one, the rear suspension appears to be failing, the front clip/bumper/hood are misaligned, and 150k is called "low mileage." ;) I admit some parts of it look super clean, but the cargo area has marks that indicate SAC used it as a bomb truck over 'Nam during Linebacker II when they couldn't sortie enough BUFFs. ;) I toss jacks, stands, tool boxes in my truck weekly and it doesn't look 1/2 so bad. Looks like a great detail job, though. My nit-picking on the cosmetics aside, all the :o misaligned body components on the front end should make you wonder.

Some things don't add up here to the eye, it maybe a good vehicle but certainly not without a history or perfectly maintained.

OK, all that kvetching aside, in about eight or 10 days I may drive from Seattle down to Crater Lake. If any of these I-5 wonder trucks are still available and interest someone seriously, I could be persuaded to go kick some tires for a forum member.

The other thing I take away from looking at all these late-model Trooper ads is: What a handsome vehicle they really are. The design really jelled in 98+. Next to a 100 Series Land Cruiser, no other real SUV was quite as good looking (or has ever been?)
1998 Acura SLX. OME 929s and front crank, KYB tubes. Retro'd Aisin manual front hubs.
Home rebuilt 4L30E doing great. Aux cooler and temp gauge. Big thanks on the rebuild to Buster28, Jerry (jlemond), CalG, and others.
Factory(US dealer) side steps and roof/ski rack (Yakima).

1986 Turbodiesel P'up - Lubbock TX

Since the listing will eventually disappear, see the Subject here. Asking price is $8,500. That's probably more than the original sticker price, but probably pretty close to fair market value today. He said these were only available for one year, but it was actually two years. He's a member of the P'up site, but not really active there.

That's a rare beast, indeed. Especially with no rust.

Wonder if it's had the upgraded conn rods done, I'm not diesel-savvy enough to be able to tell.

The Gen II Trooper wheels look good on this truck!

Here's a mind-blower: 1986 dollar is equal to $2.35 today due to inflation. So in today's dollars, the asking price would be the equivalent of almost $20,000. A bargain, since there ain't no turbodiesel trucks of any size selling for that price! At least in this country.

I sure would like an older Isuzu D-max TD Space Cab 4x4 Pickup! The only thing I'd sell my Trooper for.

And don't even mention a Chev Colorado Duramax, way too big, way too expensive, far too many complicated electronics that will break and cause $$$ in repairs down the line. No Thanks!

Another Lubbock Tx. Isuzu on our Dallas CL. Also just posting this one as it seems a good price with the mileage barely over 100,000

You're asking that, in the "Craigslist deals" topic. I don't think you meant to post that here. I hope.
