Its not as perfect as a tube bender but, if you fill your pipe with sand first and then use the pipe bender you will be able to achieve a decent bent 8)

Yes and no... you aren't wrong per se and I've heard people say this before, however actually doing it seems to be another thing altogether. (unless you've a way to work through this then I'm all ears!)

For the sand to accomplish this it's got to be captive AND precompacted. Many pipe/tubing homebrew concoctions like this or what I've tried with mixed results (custom exhaust parts) can have both ends threaded and capped but many cannot. That's the captive part. Maybe you have another way?

Then sand has an amazing amount of possible compaction, just handling the part while you put it in place then putting it under pressure will easily allow 10-15% settling void in what you thought was a full pipe.

I've built subwoofer boxes with silica sand chambers in the bases and it takes quite a bit of tumbling and filling and filling and more filling until the sand all meshes firmly, as much as 30% above what I start with. (if you left a large void it would defeat the purpose of dampening) Just 10% and that pipe gets squashed me thinks.

Mandrel bending takes balls.

Thus they only have to keep the chain the balls are attached to in place.

I'm impressed by the handiwork in this thread. Is it just me or is anyone else expecting to see Mr. T aka B.A. Baracus step out of the corner of the shed with a washing machine -turned-grenade launcher hollering "Hannibal, I ain't gettin' on no plane! I ain't flyin'!"

hole cut for tank

filler neck mounted

some pics of spare tire mount, just some scrap pcs I had around, took some tube bent it and made a tire holder out of a few nuts washers and allthread

If you notice the washers between the clamp collars, this let me weld everything together and then remove bolts and washers and cut the tube into basically three pcs and then i smoothed tube flush to mounts w/grinder and then i bolted it all together again. This let's me take the gastank in and out.
