Actually pull them up and turn 90* and fold them up and they come right out

That's what you'll need to do to Smiley when he needs to get out quickly and pull winch cable

Coming along nicely there Doug. Keep the progress pics coming. Any more work done to the light bar? I wanna see that thing mounted, painted, with the ligfhts on. That's a work of art.

Joe
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Nice work Doug! 8) It looks plenty sturdy.

The snow looks like fun, until you actually have to get some work done :?

I’m pretty sure I can Fold… I’m more worried about Spindle and Mutilate!

Believe me; there will be some rigorous drills before race weekend… I want to be able to get in and out of that thing, without even thinking about it, like I’ve been doing it all of my life.

But Doug tells me that I probably won’t have to get out during the race – apparently he’s been taking notes from Rubo’s Handbook:

I guess so what angles are you looking for and as for mounting,it's welded on so don't really have any mounting pics.It actually ihas more clearance than factory bumper.

What type of pipe bender are u using for the framing??? Wouldnt mind doing my own work like that, an exterior roll cage would be a nice thing to build someday.

It's actually a tubing bender-- protools model something :D

Pipe benders actually kink and mangle tube.Investing in a tube bender is not cheap but it opens up alot of possibilties for being different when fabing stuff up.

Tube bending really is an art form,it's one of those things that you can only learn by doing it,I'm getting better but wow there's alot to learn.

I watch and see what some of these folks are doing and it's like Da--! they are good.

Practice practice.

For those who cant get there hands on a tube bender but can get a pipe bender, theres still hope.
Its not as perfect as a tube bender but, if you fill your pipe with sand first and then use the pipe bender you will be able to achieve a decent bent 8)

a few more

cut front tubes off and welded them to 1/4" plate which is welded to slider tube and then will be tied into the front body mount, still more bracing don't worry.

Image

Image

this weekend it rained so didn't get much done, here is the strut mount for the light bar, these are the diagonal ones, made two

Image

the heims from another project, right hand and left hand so they can be in tension when mounted
Image

started on OH Crap handle.
This is the spring loaded pin I made
Image

this is pin thru outer pc of DOM
Image
it will engage into this pc of DOM that slids inside of above pc.
Image

something to hold onto

Image

started a camera mount that will bolt to one of the tubes, this is just a split collar welded to a pc of plate.
Image
recycled tripod mount
Image

and since I need to know when it's 5pm
Image

ok enjoy

Since the Roll Cage might very well end-up saving my hide, I know I’m supposed to ‘Ooooo’ and ‘Ahhhh’ more over the absolute artistry that you have faithfully demonstrated in creating it…

Or maybe the Telescoping Grab Handles, since they will undoubtedly prevent my arms from flailing around during the race, as well as make it infinitely easier for me to get in and out of the vehicle…

Or perhaps even say something about the Camera Mount or Light Bar Strut, since they are both extremely ingenious devices into which you’ve obviously put quite a bit of thought and effort………

But, Doug -- that Clock is just-plain COOL! ;)

Cheers!

Every time that I see photos of the RatRod, there is something strangely familiar about it – something that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Well, a few minutes ago, it finally hit me…
If I were sitting inside, looking out the windshield, things would probably look something like this:

American Wheeler announced last week that they would like everyone to submit a Team Name and a Song (that will be played while your vehicle is staging-up to race)…

For some reason, right now I’m thinking:
Darkside Isuzu! & ‘The Imperial March’ from The Empire Strikes Back
