No more pictures, but I drove it finally today. It drove like it normally does. I really can't say if the vibration was from the tires or the driveshaft, but the exhaust noise is still there too
Not sure what I was expecting, but it drives like it always has. It's not a bad thing, but it's not going to cut it for what I need right now. I just don't have the time to dedicate to it, and I'm trying to turn it into something it's not. Everything seems sealed well. No drips!
Sorry to say I'm now going to start a for sale add

NO!!!!!!!!! LOL, i was reading through the thread again and it seemed like some of your main concerns where to address the driveline and get smaller more streetable tires? i didnt see anything saying you have done this....I would just hate to see you get rid of something that you have so much time and money into.. Good luck with what ever you do though! _________________

Have you found something to dd yet?
If not, try balancing the the drive shaft, I honestly think it will make a huge difference.

True that! --- When I first got my O.P.D.S. from the local Fleet Pride shop, it wasn't balanced, and I experienced a BEASTLY vibration...
I had to drive to a neighboring city, to the main regional Fleet Pride shop, in order to have it balanced -- a trip that is normally taken via Interstate; however, *that* was absolutely out of the question, so I stuck to the back roads (and I still almost had my teeth shaken out )
As soon as the drive shaft was finished, I installed it in their parking lot, and hit the Interstate home... NO PROBLEM, whatsoever.
I'd sure give it a shot before throwing in the towel!!!
Cheers!

That and a set of tires, even if you just borrow a set to try it.

Just getting discouraged mainly, and my lack of time to work on it and other things around the house is getting to me.
I guess the main thing that I was reminded of is the steering. I don't know that it's something I want to deal with every day. With a 2 year old, and another due in March, I really would like to get something more practical.
I haven't found anything to DD, which is mainly why I'm open to trades.
I'll think about the driveshaft this weekend, but it's the exhaust rattle that has me scratching my head. I can't find anywhere it's obviously hitting. Could it be just too open, too much flow? _________________ 1994 Trooper - Delightfully close to stock |

No, that's definitely a rattle. It's against something somewhere.

Shortly before going under the tarp, the Rodeo developed an exhaust rattle...
After so much time, since, to examine everything, I eventually noticed that the muffler support connection to the frame had rusted away. --- Prior to this (having looked maaaaaany times), I just didn't see it; everything looked perfectly normal, with the rubber mount, the supports, and the weld to the muffler all appearing fine.
With the VX, and that 'Grandma's Oldsmobile / Off-the-Shelf / El-Cheapo' muffler that I ran for a while, I suspected that there was a stray small piece of metal that got left in the exhaust tube before it was welded on -- because I had a buzzing/rattling sound that defied explanation -- and repeated thumping & hammering on the exhaust tubes seemed to indicate that the sound was coming from inside, possibly somewhere nearer to the muffler. --- I'll never know for sure, but as soon as I replaced it with the Flowmaster, the noise was GONE.
Happy hunting!
Cheers!

I've got a 1989 Dodge Raider that put ~ 4g's in this year. Make me an offer, fly out, and drive it home. The wife says it has to go...

Thanks, but that's a bit older and farther away than what I'm looking for. _________________ 1994 Trooper - Delightfully close to stock |

I chased that damn rattle all afternoon to no avail I ruled out everything I could think of. The exhaust isn't hitting anything. I started by wrapping the pipe with leather from some old welding sleeves any place it was even close to contact with the frame. Didn't change the noise at all. It almost sounds like it could be coming from the engine compartment. I jacked up the engine to check the motor mounts, and they seem to be fine.
It only makes the noise when it's in gear. I can't duplicate it in park.
Is is possible it could be a manifold gasket? I've never had one go bad before. It really sounds like it is coming from the passenger side.

I had a bad rattle that liked to had drove me crazy trying to find. I finalley found that one of the welds on the heat shield thats on the pipe by the engine broke and was rattling against the pipe.

My money would be on the heat shield or some other minor bracket, etc, rattling when the engine is slightly loaded in gear. Just my .02. _________________ 96 F250 4x4 Powerstroke, 5spd.
