I agree, we disconnect the battery too. I also wrap a log chain around the rear axle (or any place I suppose) and let it drop to the floor / ground.
Is it necessary? I'm not certain, but saw it in some of my reading years ago and know it can't hurt!
I've also seen the bearing posters at my local bearing supplier that shows 15+ actaul damaged bearings and an explanation of what caused the damage. One bearing clearly shows arcing damage due to electricity passing through it. _________________ 91 Trooper LS 3.1 tranplant, 5 speed

If I remember I disconnect battery, have welded plenty w/o doing that,I'm just getting old so my memory is crap at times
Biggest thing is to put the ground as close as possible to what your welding and make sure it's attatched to what your welding that way the current only goes thru the frame and not anything else.
for example:
The idiot that welded the motor mounts on my dads 36 grounded to the control arm, an welded the mounts to the frame........of course this melted and burned up dads brand new SS braided brake lines _________________ The Turtles' site

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate the help. Just didn't want to burn anything up with the computers and all.
Now to get started on a few fixes and projects. ttyl _________________ Kevin & Amy
