Bad Ion sensing module?!?!

I recently had to have the engine in my 2000 Rodeo replaced. A few days after I got it back, I started getting p0300, so I'm thinking they screwed up the IMG install. The shop is under the impression that the module itself is bad and causing the code. I've searched high and low and can't find ANY posts about the module going bad, although I know anything is possible. Has anyone ever heard of such a case? How do you test the module to see if it's bad?

One of my teachers here is an ex-Isuzu tech, and he mentioned someone blowing the module by unbolting it with the engine running and frying the module (case grounded).
