Climate controls 2001 Rodeo

Postby sskrieger81 » Fri Jun 16, 2017 7:12 pm

I have a 2001 Rodeo and when I am using the AC, fan speed 1-3 it works fine but when I put it on speed 4 the AC indicator light turns off and it blows hot. I go back to speed 1-3 and it works fine again. Any ideas why the 4th fan speed has an issue?

When the AC switch is in the On position +12 Vdc is connected to one side of the AC On lamp. The other side of the lamp is connected to the Fan Control Switch. Whenever the Fan Control Switch is in any position other than Off it provides a DC return ("ground") causing the AC On lamp to illuminate. The Fan Control Switch also switches the resistor bank that controls the Fan speed. If the lamp turns Off and the Fan quits operating in the #4 position the Fan Control Switch is defective. My 02 Rodeo Sport has the same problem but I am to lazy to replace the switch even though I have a replacement on hand.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by clearing and repairing the contact of the blower switch.

So, how tough is it to remove the dash to get at the climate control unit? I have to replace the climate control unit in my '01 Rodeo Sport as the temp control knob broke completely out and hit the floor!

Unscrew and remove plastic panel above the driver's feet and you will see screws of the the instrument cluster panel plastic. Next two screws is under the top of the panel over the instrument cluster. Pull the panel of, disconnect buttons and light control, then pull the panel of completely. Then you will see the screws of the climate control.
